Fake Facebook Profiles Spreading Spyware

AVG makers of antivirus program LinkScanner, noticed a disturbing rash of nearly identical Facebook profiles aimed at infecting users’ computers with spyware.

AVG’s research chief Roger Thompson said that LinkScanner users had reported "rogue spyware attacks" from a large number of these profiles. He postulated that the fake profiles were created automatically, which would indicate that someone, somehow has figured out a way around the ReCaptchas used to protect Facebook from bot-created content.

Here are a few screenshots Thompson posted. Please note that all the fake profiles he reported showed the same main image:

"Facebook will deactivate all these accounts as quickly as they find them, but it can’t be an easy thing for them to find."

Yahoo New Service – Know Your Mojo

Yahoo recently launched Know Your Mojo, a site that claims to tell you what kind of “social mojo” you possess by analyzing your Tweets, but actually appears to do basically nothing. Yahoo hasn’t had the greatest luck with social networks recently, with its Indian social network, SpotM, shutting its doors less than a year after its launch.

Yahoo launched its microblogging product Yahoo Meme, in Spanish and now in English also. Yahoo had previously launched a Portuguese language micro-blogging product, Yahoo Meme, that drew similarities to Twitter and Tumblr. And on second glance, it seemed to be a mediocre competitor to Twitter, Tumblr and other micro-sharing services in terms of its offerings and features.

How Yahoo Meme works: you create an account and it starts you off with an empty blog that you can fill with text, images, videos, music or a mixture of those things. All you can add to your blog – apart from the content – is a title, a 100-character description and an avatar. You can also create a comment thread underneath the content you post, which was a feature that was missing when we reviewed Yahoo Meme previously.

Like Twitter and Tumblr, you can search other people’s public accounts and follow them, with updates from these users appearing in your stream. You can also ‘Repost’ anyone’s entry, similar to the ‘Reblog’ feature that’s integrated into Tumblr. But the micro-blogging service seems lacking in its features and its potential to surpass its competitors.

Microsoft is now the proud new owner of Office.com

As of two days ago, Microsoft has been indeed confirmed to be the new owners of the Office.com domain

The transition of this valuable domain from its previous owners ContactOffice Group – an European company specializing in virtual office solutions since the late 90s – to Microsoft seemed to have occurred on August 4 2009 as the domain’s Whois record notes.

One would be wise to assume Microsoft paid quite a pretty penny for this rare single-noun and vowels-intact domain that now make its Office Web application suite far more convenient to remember and access. The current Office URL, http://office.microsoft.com, never quite rolled off the tongue.

Now’s a good time as any to start F5-ing the site for updates.

Twitter New Search Engine

Topsy is a new twitter search engine. It has some good features like, you can filter search results by days, week, month and All. You also get the links to the author. I saw another link on the search result page called the alternative link, giving my blog’s name and link which is in my profile. The system works fast and hope to see more features to be added like RSS feeds for search results, widgets etc

On May 2009 Google released a new feature called “Google Wonder Wheel” . Google Wonder Wheel is a wheel (of wonder) which shows related search terms to the current searched query and thus enable you to explore relevant search terms which might be the ones you originally wanted to search for, or simply give you more options to gain more information.

Google wonder wheel by definition is a wheel display of relevant search terms. Clicking on one of the search terms will open a new wheel of relevant search terms and so on.

The wheel was not invented by the Google Wonder Wheel as related search terms always and still appear at the bottom of the search screen but this is definitely a nice way to display the results and refine your search to find exactly what it is you are looking for.

This website is intended to explain how to use the Google Wonder Wheel and supply some information related to it.
